It’s Grillin’ Time

OK, so we won’t be grilling inside the meeting – or even at the meeting.  But it sure sounds good.  There will likely be Pizza and drinks.

For any who are interested, The S3OLV meeting will be held this Thursday June 9 at 18h30 PDT.

This month Charley Jones will be test driving a new presentation.  He has been working feverishly to learn about cubes and how to create them.  He will be teaching us this month how to do this from the mind-set of an OLTP DBA in his presentation titled “OLTP Moving to OLAP.”  I think this will be a great opportunity for those of us who are weak or strong in OLAP to learn a bit and see how this transition may make sense from an OLTP perspective.

Come join the fray at the Learning Center.  At this point there will not be a LiveMeeting for this meeting unless I get enough feedback requesting it.  It would be nice to know there is a continued interest in having these meetings be available virtually.  And, thus that is really the only reason at this point.  If there is continued interest, I will create a LiveMeeting and share the information for the Livemeeting.

SQLHelp

  • @Jamie_Wick: CheckDB on one db causing 833 error on tempdb (4 data files & not growing). Any suggestions/recommendations to help alleviate? #sqlhelp
  • @SQLHA: @richardslim You also have the very real problem of paths and crossing the streams. #sqlhelp
  • @SQLHA: @richardslim I can also poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick, but would never do that in real life. #sqlhelp
  • @jdanton: @gm_praveenk My rec would be to look at guides for migrating to virtual. Same concepts. Except more limited IO and network #sqlhelp
  • @jdanton: @richardslim It’s possible, but I wouldn’t do it, aside from testing. #sqlhelp
  • @richardslim: Is it possible to have traditional fail-over Clustered instances with locally installed instances in an AG on the same 2 servers? #SQLHelp
  • @gm_praveenk: Hi all Can any one help out in documentations of migration of physical sql server to cloud (hp cloud). #sqlhelp Thanks
  • @SQLSoldier: @DBArgenis @SportsNut70 More specifically, look for updates to heaps. #sqlhelp
  • @DBArgenis: @SportsNut70 that is orthogonal to the storage you use. Look for changes in database schema and workload. #sqlhelp
  • @SportsNut70: We migrated to Flash storage and now see Forwarded Records/sec avg about 5000. On SAN, we had 0. Should I be concerned? Is it Flash?#sqlhelp
