I am now full swing into my two-a-days. It took me a little longer to get into the swing but I have been pretty steady for a little over a week now with the two-a-days. Some days are easier than others. Some days it is one cardio session and one strength session. Some days it is two cardio sessions. I don’t do two strength sessions a day. Today I was thinking about doing a third session, but I am too wasted after two harder cardio sessions than I have done in a long time. It is also getting a little more tiring with the heat going up. Today was a little cooler than the past few days but the humidity was elevated (woot) which added a different element than what I have been getting used to.
I feel pretty good about the direction I am heading with my exercise. Some day I will figure out how to drag myself out of bed earlier for an exercise session or training run when there is nobody else to run or exercise with. Race days and group runs are a different animal. It is easy to get up in the morning on those days.
Last week I announced my desired marathon schedule. This week the next phase is coming together nicely. In order to be able to run the St. George marathon, you need to be selected in the lottery.
The lottery results were announced today. I will be running the St. George marathon. This is a nice relief and a good reinforcement to make sure training goes as needed.
Quick workout today. Had wanted to go much longer but it just wasn’t the day for that. It is very difficult to look at a empty treadmills, ellipticals and bikes and to have none of the tv’s working.
I did about 30 minutes @ HR of 185 for 13 min and 157 for the remainder.
I have also made another change to help throughout the day. I am now replacing my desk chair with an exercise ball for at least 1hr a day. Since most of the day is spent at the desk, it would be good to get some cheap core exercise while at work. This decision was made in part as an experiment to test the hypothesis that you can build core muscle just by sitting on it while at work. I get back pain from time to time. One way to resolve that is through a better core.
It was good to get a good sweat after having my back out for the past few days.
Finally back to the Gym.
32 minutes at a relatively high intensity (7min miles) / HR 174 BPM. And then lower intensity at 143 BPM.
Feels good once again.
I am a runner that has been riddled with injury for the past couple of years. The injuries are knee related. I had surgery on my left knee middle of 2009 and am still trying to rehab and get back the sensation and lose the pain.
